US Cash Grains-Soy, corn basis bids mixed amid choppy futures trade
CHICAGO, July 31 (Reuters) -Spot basis bids for soybeans were mixed with some dramatic drops in the U.S. Midwest, spot checks showed, as farmers moved old crop to make way for new, and futures prices bounced around on uncertainty caused by tensions in the Middle East.
* The soybean basis dropped by 60 cents at a processor in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Merchandisers said farmers were selling significant amounts of old crop.
* The corn basis was also down at the processor in Cedar Rapids, by 3 cents, and it dropped by 3 cents at a river terminal in Davenport, Iowa and 2 cents at an ethanol plant in Council Bluffs.
* Merchants said cash prices are weak as farmers feel the pressure to sell old crops and make way for the new harvest in storage bins.
* Soybean and corn futures prices were supported by tensions in the Middle East ratcheting up after the killing of a Hamas leader in Iran, pushing oil prices up more than 2% on Wednesday.
