US Cash Grains-Soy basis bids sag after uptick in farmer sales
CHICAGO, July 26 (Reuters) -Spot basis bids for U.S. soybeans and corn slipped at river terminals on Friday afternoon after grain handlers saw an increase in available supplies from farmer selling earlier this week.
* Farmer selling took a pause on Friday as futures prices collapsed after gains earlier this week drove them to book sales, merchandisers said.
* Chicago Board of Trade November soybeans SX24, which represent the autumn harvest, sank 2.9%.
* "Beans crashed and burned today after a week's worth of big farmer selling finally made its effect felt," Marex said in a note.
* Farmers started to sell more old-crop soy this week because the next harvest is expected to be strong and growers need to make space in storage bins, an Iowa merchant said.
* Farther south, an Oklahoma dealer said some farmers are still waiting for higher prices to book corn and soy sales.
* River terminals in Iowa and Illinois lowered their soy basis bids by 3-5 cents per bushel and corn bids by 1-2 cents per bushel, spot checks showed. The soy basis fell by 23 cents per bushel at an Iowa grain elevator.
