PARIS, Sept 1 (Reuters) -Para triathlon events at the Paris Games, where the swimming leg is being held in the River Seine, have been confirmed for Monday after being postponed by a day due toa drop in the river's water quality following rains, organisers said on Sunday.
The men's triathlon at the Paris Olympics was postponed and several training sessions were reshuffled as adverse weather conditions led to a spike in bacteria levels in the Seine.
"Following a meeting on water quality held on 1 September at 22:00pm attended by representatives of World Triathlon, Paris 2024 and the relevant French authorities involved in monitoring the conditions of the Seine and the weather, World Triathlon and Paris 2024 have confirmed that the Para triathlon competitions scheduled for Monday, 2 September will go ahead as planned," Paris 2024 said in a statement.
"The results analysed today, combined with the online real time microbiological water quality monitoring system (Coliminder), indicate that water quality continues to improve and will be within the World Triathlon thresholds on race day."
Earlier on Sunday, organisers said the events could not go ahead as previously planned because"the latest tests showed a decrease in water quality in the river following the rain episodes over the last two days," meaning the water quality was not up to the required standards.
The organisers on Thursday moved the 11 para triathlon medal events, initially planned to be held over two days, to a single day on Sunday due to weather concerns, with Monday and Tuesdaybeing set aside as contingency days.
