The Times
- Two accountancy firms BDO and Forvis Mazars have been warned by Britain's accounting watchdog, Financial Reporting Council, for their work over the past year, which the regulator found to be "significantly below expectations".
- Standard Chartered STAN.L is to return $1.5 billion to investors through its biggest share buyback after posting a rise in first-half profits.

- UK regulator Competition and Markets Authority has begun a preliminary investigation into a partnership between Google GOOGL.O and the AI startup Anthropic.
- The UK Labour government will make record amounts of funding available to clean energy developers after it increased the value of its summer subsidy auction by 50%, to 1.5 billion pounds ($1.93 billion).

- Rolls Royce's small modular reactor design moved a step closer to fruition as the UK nuclear regulator said it had completed the second stage of its assessment of the technology.
- Chinese hackers were able to access the data of 40 million voters after staff at the Electoral Commission failed to update their passwords. The Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the data protection watchdog, said that insecure password policies were partly responsible for hackers gaining access to its systems in 2021 and 2022.

- Vinted, Europe's biggest online marketplace for second-hand clothing, has launched a share sale that could value it at as much as $5 billion.
- UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband said the additional 500 million pounds for the looming renewable energy auction represented a commitment towards Labour's goal of delivering clean, cheap, low-carbon electricity to families and businesses in the wake of the energy-driven cost of living crisis.

- UK deputy prime minister and housing secretary Angela Rayner unveiled a major overhaul of the planning system, which will see all councils in England given new, mandatory housing targets as part of a plan to deliver 1.5 million more homes in the UK.
