S&P 500 INDEX HURDLES STACKED UP AROUND 6K

The S&P 500 index .SPX is on track to rise for a sixth-straight week and its sixth-month in a row. With this, it has now risen about 22% year-to-date.

On Monday, the benchmark index scored its 46th record closing high this year.

With Monday's 5,859.85 record close, the S&P 500 came within 2.5% of the 6k milestone. The index backed away slightly on Tuesday to end at 5,815.26.

Overwhelming 6k may prove to be no easy feat given that a long-term resistance line resides just above this level:

Indeed, besides 6k, the SPX faces a log-scale resistance line from its 1929 high, which, on a monthly basis, presents a barrier around 6,035 in October. This line is now roughly 3.8% above Tuesday's close.

Traders are also monitoring momentum oscillators closely. The 14-month Relative Strength Index (RSI) has now risen to 73. In the event the SPX turns down, and breaks below last month's close at 5,762.48, an RSI divergence may solidify.

Additional hurdles above 6,035 this month include a resistance parallel based off of the support line from the 2009 trough which is now around 6,500.

Ten times the SPX's 2009 trough of 666, is 6,660.

Meanwhile, this week marks a potentially significant time projection from the date of the S&P 500's October 2022 bear-market trough - CLICK HERE.
