July 23 (Reuters) -Australian shares were expected to gain at open on Tuesday as investor worries surrounding the U.S. elections calmed while a surprise rate cut by the central bank of China, the country's leading trade partner, lifted sentiment.

The local share price index futures YAPcm1 rose 0.7%, a 24.3-point premium to the underlying S&P/ASX 200 index .AXJO close. The benchmark ended 0.5% lower on Monday.

New Zealand's benchmark S&P/NZX 50 index .NZ50 rose 0.18% in early trade
