U.S. STOCKS CHURN AROUND INTO JACKSON HOLE
Wall Street's main indexes are little changed early on Thursday. That said, investors are hopeful that the Federal Reserve will kick off its interest rate cut cycle next month, while awaiting policymakers' commentary at Jackson Hole this week.
According to the CME's FedWatch Tool there is a 72% chance the Fed cuts rates by 25 basis points at its September 17-18 meeting. There is a 28% chance there will be a 50 basis point reduction.
S&P 500 .SPX sectors are mixed with communication services .SPLRCL posting the biggest rise. Consumer discretionary .SLRRCD is among the weaker groups at the time of writing. That said, changes are muted with no one group showing an absolute change of more than 0.5%.
Under the surface, gold stocks .HUI are weak, with a 3% loss. This, as the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield US10YT=RR is popping up around 8bps to the 3.86% area, and attempting to end a four-day losing streak.
