US Cash Grains-Soybean basis steady-firm, corn mixed in slow trade
CHICAGO, June 18 (Reuters) -Spot basis bids for soybeans were steady to firmer while corn basis bids were mixed on Tuesday, as a heat wave in the U.S. crop belt slowed cash grain trade, despite an upturn in Chicago Board of Trade futures, an analyst said.
* Producers and industry players are closely monitoring weather in the Midwest, where hot temperatures interspersed with thunderstorms may stress crops.
* Soy basis bids strengthened at a Cincinnati, Ohio, elevator and an Iowa elevator on the Mississippi River.
* The corn basis firmed at a processing site in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, but weakened at an Indiana ethanol plant.
* The spot basis for soft red winter wheat fell by 5 cents a bushel at Decatur, Indiana, as the winter wheat harvest progressed. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) late Monday said the Indiana wheat harvest was 13% complete, ahead of the state's five-year average of 5%. US/WHE
* The USDA rated 72% of the corn crop as good to excellent in Monday's weekly crop progress report, down 2 percentage points from a week earlier but still the highest for this time of year since 2018.
* The USDA rated 70% of the soy crop as good to excellent, down from 72% last week but the highest for this calendar week since 2020.
* At mid-session on the CBOT, July soybean futures SN24 were up 14-3/4 cents at $11.72-1/2 per bushel and July corn CN24 was up 6-3/4 cents at $4.50-1/2 a bushel. GRA/
* U.S. markets and most government offices will be closed on Wednesday in observance of the Juneteenth federal holiday.
