Updates with latest results

PARIS, Aug 3 (Reuters) - Sha'carri Richardson will look to end the United States' gold medal drought in the women's 100 metres on Saturday but faces fierce competition from Jamaica's jet-heeled sprinters.

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif, who has found herself at the centre of a debate over gender in sport, won her welterweight quarter-final bout and is guaranteed a medal.

Teddy Riner capped a stunning comeback for the French mixed judo team, delivering an ippon after the contest had finished tied and was sent to a sudden-death golden score.

In the gymnastics, Simone Biles won the vault final to clinch her third gold medal at the Paris Olympics.

Here's what you need to know about the Olympics on Saturday.

BLISTERING SPRINTERS

World champion Sha'Carri Richardson's long-awaited Olympic debut got off to a sizzling start on Friday as she cruised through her heat with a winning time of 10.94 seconds.

Richardson's Olympic dreams were dashed three years ago when she tested positive for cannabis and had to miss the Tokyo Games.

The final takes place later on Saturday.

SIMONE SOARS HIGH

Simone Biles won the vault final to claim her third gold medal at the Paris Olympics, performing her explosive Yurchenko double pike for a massive score of 15.700 on her opening vault.

Biles was already the world's most decorated gymnast when she arrived in Paris, but has now reached new heights, with 10 Olympic medals overall, including seven gold.

GENDER ROW

Algeria boxer Imane Khelif , who has been thrust into the centre of a gender row at the Paris Olympics, won her quarter-final against Hungary's Luca Anna Hamori on points.

Khelif's father said his daughter had brought honour to the family and described the attacks against her as "immoral."

International Olympic President Thomas Bach said there was no doubt Khelif and Taiwan's Lin Yu-ting were women .

"We have two boxers who were born as women, raised as women, who have passports as women and who have competed for many years as women and this is a clear definition of a woman," Bach told a press conference.

'BIG TEDDY' RULES SUPREME

In a fairy-tale ending to the mixed team judo competition, Teddy Riner won the decisive bout to see France crowned champions and earned himself a national record-equalling fifth Olympic gold medal.

PUNCTURED FINALE

Belgium'sRemco Evenepoel had a heart-in-mouth moment when he suffered a puncture less than four kilometres from the finish of the men's road race, but enjoyed enough of a margin over the second-placed rider to swap bikes and push on for gold.

UNSTOPPABLE MARCHAND

Four finals, four gold medals, four Olympic records: Leon Marchand's exploits in the pool at Paris 2024 have prompted comparisons with American greats Michael Phelps and Mark Spitz -- the only other men to win four individual swimming golds at a single Games.

"That's crazy. Those guys are legends. Legends of their own sport," said the 22-year-old.
