Japan nuclear operations: Shikoku Elec restarts Ikata No.3 reactor
TOKYO, Oct 18 (Reuters) -Shikoku Electric Power 9507.T has restarted the 890 megawatt(MW) No.3 reactor in western Japan on Oct. 16 after fixing a glitch in the equipment used to monitor fuel combustion, a company spokesperson said on Friday.
The reactor was shut down on Oct. 7 due to a malfunction in the equipment. The utility had restarted the reactor on Sept. 29 following planned maintenance, which started on July 19.
Separately, Kansai Electric Power 9503.T shut down the 826-MW No.3 reactor at its Mihama nuclear power station in western Japan on Oct. 15, due to small holes found in a pipeline, a company spokesperson said.
The utility said last week that it would shut the Mihama reactor, without giving a specific timing, after discovering two small holes in the pipe used to release water from the cooling system to the sea.
"No decision has been made on the timing of restart as we are still investigating the cause of the holes and how to repair the problem," the spokesperson said.
As of Thursday, Japan has 11 operating reactors with a total capacity of 10,782 MW.
Many companies are still going through a re-licensing process to comply with stricter safety standards imposed after the 2011 Fukushima disaster. The companies had 54 operational reactors before it.

The regional utilities are: Chubu Electric Power 9502.T, Chugoku Electric Power 9504.T, Hokkaido Electric Power 9509.T, Hokuriku Electric Power 9505.T, Kansai Electric Power 9503.T, Kyushu Electric Power 9508.T, Shikoku Electric Power 9507.T, Tohoku Electric Power 9506.T and Tokyo Electric Power (Tepco) 9501.T.
They are referred to in the table by their regional names.
