U.S. PCE inflation data has snuck up on investors a bit this week - they've had plenty else to think about - and that should drive the daily picture for markets from early afternoon in Europe.
Before then, there are plenty of earnings to process and futures are pointing to a steadier open for most European bourses, apart from in Germany, where several big names have reported market-disappointing earnings and are trading down in pre-market or early trade. These include Mercedes-Benz MBGn.DE, BASF BASFn.DE and Thyssenkrupp TKAG.DE.
DAX futures FDXc1> are down 0.13%, while FTSE futures are up 0.3% .FTSE FFCEc1> and CAC40 futures up 0.46%. FCEc1
A rare luxury beat - for this earnings season - is helping the French benchmark, which dropped to its lowest since January on Thursday, namely a positive report from Birkin-bag maker Hermes HRMS.PA, which reported a 13% rise in second-quarter sales,
Also in French earnings news, Amundi AMUN.PA Europe's biggest fund manager, posted better-than-expected quarterly inflows.
Across the channel, British bank NatWest's NWG.L first-half pretax operating profit fell by 16%, though this was less than expected, and hedge fund Man Group EMG.L posted a rise in assets under management.
In the bigger picture, eyes will obviously be on U.S. mega cap stocks after they have led the recent sell off - which is still proving a little hard to explain. A short term blip or a real rotation? There are lots of views out there, but no one is sounding especially confident.
