GLOBAL - Global stocks rose while U.S. bond yields dropped on Tuesday as markets awaited economic data and a plethora of corporate earnings, moving past U.S. President Joe Biden's decision to end his reelection bid.

NEW YORK - Wall Street's main indexes rose on a boost from megacaps ahead of Alphabet and Tesla earnings on Tuesday, as investors assessed if the recent rally had fuel enough to sustain the charge, while United Parcel Service hit a nearly four-year low on weak results.

At 11:48 a.m. ET, the Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI was up 92.76 points, or 0.23%, at 40,508.20, the S&P 500 .SPX was up 17.78 points, or 0.32%, at 5,582.19, and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC was up 99.34 points, or 0.55%, at 18,106.91.

NEW YORK - The yen rose for a second straight session against the dollar on Tuesday, boosted by comments from a senior Japanese politician about normalising monetary policy, adding pressure on the Bank of Japan to continue hiking interest rates to boost the currency.

In late morning trading, the dollar index =USD, which tracks the U.S. currency against six peers, rose 0.2% to 104.51, after falling to a four-month low of 103.64 last week.

SHANGHAI - The yuan held steady on Tuesday against the U.S. dollar, with analysts saying the fragile currency would stand up to the central bank's cut in key interest rates, as traders await U.S. data this week to gauge the Federal Reserve's policy path.

Spot yuan CNY=CFXS opened at 7.2722 per dollar and was last trading 2 pips lower than the previous late session close at 7.2738 by 0259 GMT, down 1.97% from the midpoint.

AUSTRALIA - The Australian and New Zealand dollars extended their losing streak on Tuesday, hammered by fears over China's economy as small cuts to interest rates failed to impress, while carry trades continued to unwind amid increased market volatility.

NEW YORK - U.S. Treasury yields were mostly lower on Tuesday, after a weak reading on the housing market and ahead of an auction in shorter-term notes.

The yield on the benchmark U.S. 10-year Treasury note US10YT=RR fell 3.5 basis points to 4.225%.

IRON ORE


Iron ore futures fell to their lowest in more than three months on Tuesday, as a lack of stimulus from top consumer China's third plenum fanned prospects of bleak demand.

The most-traded September iron ore contract on China's Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) DCIOcv1 ended daytime trade 3.43% lower at 774.5 yuan ($106.47) a metric ton, its lowest since April 8.

Malaysian palm oil futures gave up early gains on Tuesday, ending a five-day rally amid concerns around India's annual budget although support from strong July exports capped losses.

The benchmark palm oil contract FCPOc3 for October delivery on the Bursa Malaysia Derivatives Exchange fell 18 ringgit, or 0.45%, to 3,967 ringgit ($849.65) a metric ton.
