NEW YORK - U.S. stocks finished mostly lower in a choppy session on Monday following soft manufacturing sector data and as a glitch on the NYSE briefly caused trading halts in several equities.

According to preliminary data, the S&P 500 .SPX gained 5.91 points, or 0.11%, to end at 5,283.39 points, while the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC gained 93.62 points, or 0.56%, to 16,828.63. The Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI fell 110.89 points, or 0.29%, to 38,575.43.

NEW YORK - The dollar fell to a three-week low on Monday after data showed the U.S. economy is gradually slowing down with weaker-than-expected readings on manufacturing and construction spending, suggesting that the Federal Reserve is on track to start cutting interest rates later this year.

The dollar index, a measure of the U.S. currency's value against six major currencies, fell 0.4% to 104.14 =USD.

CHINA - China's yuan on Monday extended losses against the dollar after posting its fifth straight month of declines in May, weighed down by seasonal demand for foreign exchange.

In the spot market, the onshore yuan CNY=CFXS opened at 7.2409 per dollar and was changing hands at 7.2456 at midday, 31 pips softer than the previous late session close.

NEW YORK - Benchmark U.S. Treasury yields fell to a two-week low on Monday after data showed that U.S. manufacturing activity slowed for a second straight month in May, boosting expectations that a softening economy may allow the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates later this year.

GOLD - Gold prices rose on Monday as weaker-than-expected U.S. economic data cemented expectations that the Federal Reserve would cut interest rates later this year, sending the dollar and bond yields lower.

IRON ORE - Iron ore futures prices slipped to their lowest levels in more than six weeks on Monday, as signs of weakening steel demand in top consumer China broadly weighed on sentiment.

The most-traded September iron ore contract on China's Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) DCIOcv1 ended daytime trade 2.65% lower at 843.5 yuan ($116.42) a metric ton, the lowest since April 17.

BASE METALS - Copper prices rose on Monday after data from top consumer China showed stronger factory activity and U.S. inflation data reinforced hopes of interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve later this year.

OIL - Oil prices tumbled more than $2 a barrel on Monday to their lowest in nearly four months, as investors worried about the demand outlook and took a complicated OPEC+ output decision as a sign that members of the producer group were eager to export more crude.

Brent crude futures fell by $2.75, or 3.4%, to settle at $78.36 a barrel, closing below $80 for the first time since Feb. 7.

PALM OIL - Malaysian palm oil futures rose on Friday and logged a weekly gain, buoyed by estimates of higher exports in the world's second-biggest producer.
