Stock Market News – Cars, airlines drag European stocks; US indices open flat as investors await earnings

Major European bourses had a mixed performance day with the French CAC 40 and the FTSE MIB gaining, while others fell, with the pan-European STOXX 600 down a quarter of a percent. Among sectors, airlines and autos fared the worst. In the US, major indices opened broadly unchanged and close to last week’s record highs. All major European bourses declined but a number of blue chips swung into the black thanks to positive updates. The euro’s rally to a two-year high in the past 24-hours has seen the pan-European STOXX 600 turn downwards with the four main country indices falling by more than 1% today.
