Technical Analysis – US 500 index loses some ground; bearish crossover of 20 and 40 SMAs

Posted on February 21, 2018 at 2:30 pm GMT

The US 500 index is moving slightly lower after the sharp buying interest in the previous week pared some of the steep losses from earlier in the month. The price is developing below the bearish crossover within the 20 and 40 simple moving averages in the daily timeframe, suggesting downward pressure. From the technical point of view, the MACD oscillator is holding below the zero line but jumped above the trigger line in the previous sessions. The stochastic oscillator is moving lower [..]

Is the equity correction over, or just taking a breather? – Index News

Posted on February 16, 2018 at 3:34 pm GMT

Global equity indices have largely rebounded after their recent slide. The Dow Jones and the S&P 500 have already recovered more than half of their losses. While stock markets may well be headed for new highs, the sustained surge in US Treasury yields should give investors pause for thought, as fresh records in equities could be harder to achieve in a regime of rapidly rising yields. Are we back to normal? Equity markets seem to have carved out a bottom [..]

Posted on February 14, 2018 at 11:25 am GMT

Stock market correction, or the beginning of a bear market? – Index News

Posted on February 6, 2018 at 4:30 pm GMT

Global stock markets have not fallen this aggressively in years. While the carnage may still have some room to run, it is important to distinguish that this appears to be merely a correction in an otherwise robust uptrend, and not the beginning of a bear market in stocks. Many have argued that a major correction in global stocks was long overdue, following spectacular bull runs in almost every major equity index in recent years. Some have even argued that a [..]

The price posted a new more than 3-month low of 23116.40 earlier today, however, it later reversed some of its losses during the European session. Surging US yields threaten the Dow’s rally – Index News

Posted on February 2, 2018 at 2:28 pm GMT

The bull run in the Dow Jones continued unabated in the first month of 2018, with the index gaining an astonishing 6% in just four weeks. However, with yields on US Treasuries rising sharply in recent days, the Dow’s rally appears at risk, with a further correction lower being possible in case yields continue to break multi-year highs.   While bonds and stocks are typically the two main components of any investment portfolio, they serve very different functions. Stocks are [..]

The US 100 index is 2.5% down from the week’s high of 7,037.10 hit on Monday which also constituted the highest on record for the benchmark. During Friday’s trading it touched 6,849.60, this being an 11-day low, while it continues trading in proximity to this level. The RSI has been falling in recent days, hinting to a change in short-term dynamics from bullish to bearish.
