Cocoa futures rebound while raw sugar prices ease

NEW YORK, Oct 28 (Reuters) -Cocoa futures rose on Monday, boosted by concerns that heavy rains in Ivory Coast could reduce the size of the main crop in the world's largest producer, while sugar prices fell.
COCOA
* December New York cocoa CCc1 settled up $147, or 2.2%, to $6,917 a metric ton, rebounding from Friday's eight-month low of $6,426.
* Dealers said the market was showing signs of renewed strength after absorbing selling from funds as they scaled back long positions in both New York and London cocoa.
* They noted that price support was also provided by a diminished outlook for the main crop in top grower Ivory Coast after heavy rain.
* Cocoa arrivals at ports in top grower Ivory Coast had reached 285,000 metric tons by Oct. 27 since the start of the season on Oct. 1, up 26% from the same period last season, exporters estimated on Monday.
* March London cocoa LCCc2 rose 3.7% to 4,992 pounds per ton.
SUGAR
* March raw sugar SBc1 settled down 0.18 cents, or 0.8%, at 21.96 cents per lb.
* Dealers said cane production in Centre-South Brazil so far this season was the second highest on record but the market's next move may depend on how quickly it tails off.
* Sugar industry group Unica reported last week that 539 million tons of cane had been crushed as of Oct. 16, up 2% from the previous season.
* "Whilst more mills have shut than last year, the pace of mill closures is not rapid enough to support a sub-600 million metric ton outcome," analysts Green Pool said in a note, forecasting a total of 605 million tons.
* The increase inethanol production in India will prevent the country from exporting sugar in the 2024/25 season, trader Wilmar said.
* December white sugar LSUc1 fell 1.1% to $560.20 a ton.
COFFEE
* January robusta coffee LRCc2 settled up $91, or 2.1%, at $4,502 a ton, rebounding from Friday's 2-1/2 month low of $4,296.
* Dealers noted concerns about heavy rains expected for the Central Highlands in Vietnam that could disrupt the approaching harvest.
* They added, however, thatthe strong pace of Brazilian robusta exports had helped to ease supply concerns.
* December arabica coffee KCc1 rose 1.6% at $2.5235 per lb.
