After having a strong start to the day on the back of hawkish comments from Atlanta Fed President Dennis Lockhart, the dollar went into sharp reverse on contradicting remarks from another Fed official. On Tuesday, Lockhart had raised expectations of a September rate rise by saying that “the economy is ready and it is an appropriate time to make a change” with regards to the September meeting. European Session – Euro steady but dollar lower on manufacturing data

Posted on August 3, 2015 at 2:09 pm GMT

Major currencies were mostly steady on Monday and manufacturing data had limited impact. Earlier in the day, weak manufacturing PMI from China added more worries on the growth outlook in the world’s second largest economy. Eurozone final manufacturing PMI was slightly better-than-expected in July at 52.4, and an improvement on June’s 52.2. There was strong growth in the Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Austria. European Session – Eurozone data fails to lift euro; dollar rises despite unimpressive Q2 GDP

Posted on July 30, 2015 at 2:56 pm GMT

The euro failed to be inspired from positive Eurozone data as all attention was on US GDP estimates for the second quarter. US GDP rose by an annualized rate of 2.3% in the second quarter, falling slightly short of forecasts of 2.6%. The modest figure is an improvement on the first quarter’s upwardly revised 0.6% and supports the case that the US economy is growing at a moderate pace. The dollar surged after the data as markets view this as [..]

Greek officials on Monday started talks on the terms of the third bailout that was agreed on July 13 between Greece and its creditors.
