India's Maruti Suzuki drops; earnings growth likely at near 3-year low
** Maruti Suzuki India MRTI.NS drops 1.3% to 11,328.50 rupees ahead of Q2 earnings
** Q2 profit at India's top carmaker by market share to rise 0.2% to 37.26 billion rupees ($443 million), per LSEG data, making it MRTI's slowest earnings growth in almost 3 years
** Q2 sales volume, incl exports, fell 2% due to dwindling small car sales, but revenue expected to rise 1.4% on bigger contribution from costlier SUVs
** But SUV impact likely to be diluted by bigger discounts across models, hurting earnings growth, say analysts
** MRTI to kick off Q2 earnings for car makers, who are grappling with lower sales after a period of booming growth
** In that light, investors to watch out for MRTI's commentary on demand
** MRTI on 4-day losing run, losing ~6% and cutting YTD gains to 10%, less than rivals Tata Motors TAMO.NS and Mahindra MAHM.NS
** Still, analysts on avr rate MRTI a "buy" - LSEG data
($1 = 84.0700 Indian rupees)
