EUROPEAN EQUITY FUTURES HIGHER, PMIS IN FOCUS
Equity futures in Europe are slightly higher on Friday but most major indexes are still heading for a small weekly loss.
Euro STOXX 50 futures STXEc1 are up about 0.5% on Friday, but the index .STOXX50E is still down about 0.8% this week as geopolitical tensions have weighed.
Futures on the DAX FDXc1, CAC FCEc1 and FTSE FFIc1 are up between 0.4%-0.6% on Friday.
Important data on business activity is released today from Europe in the shape of the flash PMIs, which should provide a decent snapshot of the economy at a time of heightened uncertainty for the region after Trump's re-election.
"Today's flash PMI figures are, in our opinion, the most important data point of the month for Europe," writes Danske Bank assistant analyst Sofie Pedersen.
The auto sector is facing another day of unwelcome headlines after Northvolt, the Swedish maker of battery cells for electric vehicles, said it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States. Volkswagen VOWG.DE is Northvolt's top shareholder with a 21% stake.
