Polish central banker Kotecki sees rate-cut discussion starting in March

WARSAW, Nov 14 (Reuters) -Poland's Monetary Policy Council (MPC) will likely start talking about rate cuts in March, central banker Ludwik Kotecki said on Thursday, rejecting the suggestion of another policymaker that it would be better to wait longer.
Most MPC members have echoed the view of governor Adam Glapinski that a discussion on policy easing will start when the central bank publishes economic forecasts in March.
However, earlier this week rate-setter Ireneusz Dabrowski broke ranks, telling Bloomberg in an interview that the most likely scenario was for such discussions to begin in the third quarter.
Kotecki told private broadcaster TOK FM he was "completely shocked" by Dabrowski's comments.
"Most members are talking about March, and I think at some point there was such a consensus that March is the moment when we should seriously talk about some easing of this policy if, of course, the conditions are met, that is reaching the inflation target over several quarters," he said.
Asked about the scale of easing that could be expected in 2025, Kotecki said he was cautious and that it would be less than one percentage point.
"We've been living with this inflation too long to make some mistake," he said.
