US Cash Grains-Soy basis eases as harvest approaches; corn bids mixed

CHICAGO, Aug 28 (Reuters) -Spot basis bids for soybeans continued to weaken at U.S. Midwest elevators and processing sites on Wednesday, reflecting increased offerings of the oilseed as farmers and elevators clear space ahead of the autumn harvest, dealers said.

* The spot soybean basis fell by 20 cents a bushel at a crushing facility in Lafayette, Indiana; by 15 cents at a Toledo, Ohio, terminal elevator, and by 5 cents at a Cedar Rapids, Iowa, crusher.

* Corn basis bids were mixed, softening by a nickel at a Cincinnati, Ohio, elevator and a big processing plant in Blair, Nebraska. But the basis firmed by 2 cents at a Linden, Indiana, ethanol plant.

* A few dealers have rolled their corn basis to the Chicago Board of Trade December CZ24 futures contract as the CBOT September contract CU24 nears its delivery phase and Sept. 13 expiration.

* CBOT corn and soy futures declined on Wednesday as a Midwest heat wave eased and rains crossed the region, reducing fears of crop stress. The benchmark corn Cv1 and soybean Sv1 contracts are hovering just above four-year lows set this month. GRA/
