UK Stocks-Factors to watch on Dec 17
Dec 17 (Reuters) -Britain's FTSE 100 .FTSE index is seen opening lower on Tuesday, with futures FFIc1 down 0.26%.
* SHEIN: Fast fashion retailer Shein is considering asking UK regulators to waive listing rules that require at least 10% of its shares to be sold to the public in its planned London flotation, two people with knowledge of the matter said.
* RIO TINTO: Australia's BHP BHP.AX and Rio Tinto RIO.AX will jointly develop a pilot plant to produce low-carbon iron from Pilbara ores as they take steps to speed up decarbonisation in the steel industry, the companies said in a joint statement.
* BT GROUP: The British government on Monday approved Indian group Bharti Global's purchase of a 24.5% stake in London-listed BT BT.L, following a detailed national security assessment and assurances from the telecoms company.
* SHELL: Shell SHEL.L began restarting the crude distillation unit (CDU) at its 233,702 barrel-per-day (bpd) Norco, Louisiana, refinery, people familiar with plant operations said on Monday.
* UK WATER: Britain said it was increasing compensation payments for customers whose water supply is temporarily cut off, its latest attempt to improve the water sector after poor service and environmental pollution sparked public anger.
* THAMES WATER: Britain's Thames Water will attempt to convince a court on Tuesday to approve a 3 billion pound ($3.8 billion) lifeline, one of several hurdles it must clear to avoid nationalisation.
* OIL: Oil prices were range-bound in early Asian trading as investors worried about Chinese demand and awaited further market direction from a U.S. interest rate decision due on Wednesday.
* GOLD: Spot gold steadied ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy meeting as the market keenly awaited the U.S. central bank's outlook for cues on the interest rate path in 2025.
* METALS: Copper prices flitted within a narrow range on Tuesday as traders took a cautious stance ahead of the U.S. interest rate decision later this week.
* FTSE 100: Britain's FTSE 100 index slipped on Monday, with Entain dropping after Australia's financial crime watchdog initiated legal proceedings against it, while a survey showed British businesses cut staffing by the most since the COVID pandemic this month.
