HAMBURG, Nov 29 (Reuters) -South Korea's state-backed Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corp. purchased an estimated 60,000 metric tons of rice mainly to be sourced from Vietnam and Thailand in an international tender which closed earlier in November, European traders said.

The lowest price was reported as $425.50 a ton cost and freight (c&f) included for 10,000 tons of non-glutinous milled rice sourced from Vietnam.

A tender seeking about 101,000 tons had closed on Nov. 7.

The corporation often takes several weeks before awarding tender purchases with rice samples generally requested for examination.

Other purchases of non-glutinous brewers milled rice in the tender also involved 20,000 tons sourced from Vietnam in three consignments all at $435 a ton c&f.

Another 10,000 tons was bought from Thailand at $493 a ton c&f.

An additional 20,000 tons of rice from optional worldwide origins was all bought at $426.50 a ton c&f. Traders expected the optional rice to be sourced from Vietnam.

Arrival in South Korea was sought in a long period in 2025 between Feb. 15 and Dec. 15, they said.

No purchase was reported of 40,000 tons of U.S.-origin rice also sought in the tender. The corporation has issued another tender for U.S. rice which closed on Nov. 22, with results still awaited.

Reports reflect assessments from traders and further estimates of prices and volumes are still possible.
