MOSCOW, Aug 30 (Reuters) -Russia's exports of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) via rail to China in January-July rose by 29.5% to 156,000 metric tons, Reuters calculations based on industry sources data showed on Friday.

Industry sources said July exports were up almost 80% from May-June levels to 22,700 tons recovering after state-owned Russian Railways imposed restrictions on rail use due to heavy congestion.

Traders said rail congestion in May and June was especially pronounced at the Zabaikalsk-Manchuria border crossing due to maintenance work at the Manzhouli Far East Gas terminal.

Irkutsk Oil Company's (INK) Ust-Kut gas processing plant accounted for the bulk of the exports rise, the trading sources said. It increased supply by 44,900 tons in the first seven months of the year.

LPG, or propane and butane, is mainly used as fuel for cars, heating and to produce other petrochemicals.

In 2023, Russia raised LPG rail exports to China by 35% to 202,000 tons. China accounted for 6% of Russia's railway LPG exports of 3.6 million tons. The sharehas risen to around 8% this year.

Russia also supplies LPG by truck.
