Poland says it receives US interest in financing first nuclear power plant
WARSAW, Nov 13 (Reuters) -The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (U.S. DFC) is considering investing more than 4 billion zlotys ($975.7 million) to build the first nuclear plant in Poland, the Polish company involved in the programme said on Wednesday.
As Poland seeks to cut reliance on carbon-intensive coal, it chose Westinghouse Electric to build the country's first nuclear plant on the Baltic Sea coast. The plant is set to cost some $40 billion and is due to be fully operational by 2040.
"The involvement of this important entity (U.S. DFC) has more than just a financial dimension for us," said Wojciech Rosinski, finance division director at PEJ, the company responsible for developing nuclear power in Poland. "It confirms the U.S. administration's interest in our project."
PEJ said that the U.S. Export-Import Bank (Exim Bank) has already expressed interest in contributing about 70 billion zlotys ($17.08 billion) to the project.
