BERLIN, July 31 (Reuters) -OMV OMVV.VI has been awarded an additional 29 terawatt-hours (TWh) in gas pipeline capacity into Austria up to 2029, the energy companysaid on Wednesday, as it works to reduce the country's reliance on Russia .

This positions OMV to take on additional piped gas volumes from Germany at the cross-border transfer point Oberkappel in Upper Austria, the company added in a statement.

"OMV continues to pursue the strategy of diversifying its gas supply sources and supply routes," OMV executive board member Berislav Gaso said in a statement.

"We can reliably supply our Austrian and international customers - even if gas supplies from Russia were to be disrupted," Gaso added.

Landlocked Austria gets most of its gas from Russia, although it is trying to shift away after decades of reliance.

The company is seeking to diversify its portfolio with increased use of gas from its own production as well as from Norway and via additional liquefied national gas (LNG) volumes.
