CIF/FOB Gulf Grain-Corn barge bids soften, soy basis firms
Nov 13 (Reuters) -Basis bids for corn shipped by barge to U.S. Gulf Coast terminals weakened on Wednesday, reflecting cheaper costs for barge freight as recent rains lifted Midwest river levels, traders said.
* Empty barges on the Mississippi River at St. Louis were offered for this week at 475% of tariff, down from 500% a day earlier and down from about 725% at the start of November. Rising water levels on the Mississippi have helped increase barge traffic while also allowing for heavier loads on fewer barges. BG/US
* At the Gulf, CIF barges loaded with corn in November traded at 82 cents over Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) December CZ24 corn futures and were re-bid at 80 cents over futures, down 4 cents from Tuesday's last bid. Bids for December corn barges were quoted at 81 cents over futures, down 3 cents.
* FOB offers for December corn shipped out of the Gulf were around 112 cents over futures, down 3 cents from Tuesday.
* For soybeans, CIF barges loaded in November traded at 95 cents over CBOT January SF25 futures and were re-bid at 90 cents over futures, up 1 cent from Tuesday's last bid. December soy barges were bid at 87 cents over futures, down a penny.
* FOB export premiums for soybeans shipped out of the Gulf in December were around 117 cents over futures, down 3 cents from Tuesday.
* Under its daily sales reporting rules, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) confirmed private sales of 401,357 metric tons of U.S. corn to Mexico and another 290,820 tons to undisclosed destinations.
* The USDA's weekly export sales report is delayed until Friday due to Monday's federal holiday.
* South Korean feedmakers were active buyers on the global market of soymeal, corn and feed wheat in the last day.
* On the CBOT, corn Cv1 and soybean Sv1 futures closed lower on Wednesday on worries about demand, particularly from China, while wheat futures Wv1 were pressured by a firmer dollar, which tends to make U.S. grains less competitive. GRA/
