Updates with credit generation table, background

NEW YORK, Aug 15 (Reuters) -The United States generated more renewable blending credits in July versus the month prior, data from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) showed on Thursday.

About 1.33 billion ethanol (D6) blending credits were generated last month, compared to about 1.21 billion in June, the data showed.

Credits generated from biodiesel (D4) blending fell to 826.9 million in July from a revised estimate of 827.2 million in the prior month, according to the data.

Last month, the EPA had reported D4 credit generation of just 734.7 million in June.

The credits are used by oil refiners and importers to show compliance with EPA-mandated renewable blending quotas for petroleum-based fuels. They are generated with every gallon of biofuels produced.

The following is a table of the credit generation for the month of July by credit type.
