US Cash Grains-Corn, soy basis up as harvest winds down
Nov 4 (Reuters) -Basis bids for corn and soy strengthened at processing sites and river terminals in the U.S. Midwest on Monday as the harvest slowed down.
* The corn basis rose by as much as 10 cents a bushel on Monday at a river terminal in Davenport, Iowa, where grain is loaded onto barges for shipment toward Gulf export terminals.
* The soybean basis rose by 7 cents at the same terminal.
* Barge freight costs lowered last week, helping lift the basis at river terminals. Increasing shower activity should help lift low water levels on the Mississippi River, aiding barge movement.
* The corn basis rose by 3 cents at a processor in Decatur, Illinois, while the soybean basis rose by 5 cents at an elevator in Council Bluffs.
* On the CBOT, December corn futures CZ24 settled up 2 cents at $4.16-1/2 per bushel, while benchmark January soybeans SF25 rose 3-1/2 cents to settle at $9.97-1/4 per bushel.GRA/
