US Cash Grains-Corn, soy basis mostly steady-weak on harvest pressure
CHICAGO, Oct 4 (Reuters) -Basis bids for corn and soybeans were mostly steady to weaker in the U.S. Midwest on Friday, pressured in some locations by harvest activity and farmer selling, grain dealers said.
* A few showers crossed eastern Illinois and Indiana on Friday, but elsewhere in the Midwest "mild dry weather favors crop maturation and harvesting," the USDA said in a daily weather note.
* The spot corn basis fell by 10 cents a bushel at a Cedar Rapids, Iowa, processing site as premiums for pre-harvest deliveries expired. But the basis improved by a penny at a Cincinnati, Ohio, elevator.
* The soybean basis fell by 5 cents at Savanna, Illinois, where grain is loaded onto barges for shipment on the Mississippi River toward Gulf exporters.
* On the Chicago Board of Trade, corn Cv1 and soybean Sv1 futures declined, following as wheat futures Wv1 fell by more than 2% and the dollar climbed to its highest level since August after data showed the U.S. economy added far more jobs than expected in September. GRA/
* A firmer dollar tends to make U.S. grains less competitive globally.
