CHICAGO, Aug 5 (Reuters) -Spot basis bids for corn and soybeans in the U.S. Midwest fell on Monday as farmers sold large quantities of old crop corn and soy to make room for the upcoming harvest as prices remain low.

* Corn bids fell by 5 cents at a Chicago elevator and by 10 cents at an Illinois corn processor.

* Soy bids fell by 15 cents at an Illinois soybean processor, by 5 cents at an Iowa elevator and by 5 cents at an Iowa processor.

* Global stock markets tumbled on Monday as fears of a U.S. recession sent investors fleeing from risk, while wagering that rate cuts would be needed to rescue growth, with the dollar falling against major currencies.

* However, a lower dollar may be supporting corn and soy prices, as a weaker dollar tends to make U.S. exports more attractive.

* CBOT September corn CU24 settled up 4-1/4 cents at $3.90-3/4 per bushel.

* Most-active November soybeans SX24 settled up 13-1/2 cents at $10.40-3/4 per bushel.
