Aug 22 -Britain's FTSE 100 .FTSE index is seen opening lower on Thursday, with futures FFIc1 down 0.2%.

* OIL: A sharp sell-off in crude oil paused after expectations of a rate cut by the Federal Reserve offset a bunch of weak economic data from the world's two largest economies, the United States and China.

* GOLD: Gold prices fell, retreating from all-time highs hit earlier this week, as the U.S. dollar ticked up ahead of U.S. jobs data and the Federal Reserve chief's speech that could offer further insights into the interest rate outlook.

* METALS: Copper prices fell in London, weighed down by a firmer dollar, but falling metal inventories and demand showing signs of improvement limited losses.

* EX-DIVS: Modni MNDI.L Schroders SDR.L ConvaTec CTEC.L and Land Securities LAND.L will trade without entitlement to their latest dividend pay-out on Thursday.

* FTSE: London's FTSE 100 ended slightly higher on Wednesday, as traders remained cautious ahead of release of the Federal Reserve's July meeting minutes and speeches from policymakers this week, while midcap stocks soared as pound hovered near one-year high levels.
