TSX futures fall as Russia-Ukraine tensions rise

Nov 19 (Reuters) -Futures tied to Canada's main stock index fell on Tuesday as tensions escalated between Russia and Ukraine, after President Vladimir Putin updated nuclear doctrine, weighed on risk assets globally.

December futures on the S&P/TSX index SXFcv1 were down 0.39% at at 6:03 a.m. ET (11:03 GMT).

Investors around the globe were concerned after Vladimir Putin approved a new nuclear doctrine, warning Russia would consider a nuclear strike if it was subject to a conventional missile assault supported by a nuclear power.

Wall Street futures fell on Tuesday as scaling worries over the Russia-Ukraine war hit risk assets globally as investors rushed for safe havens. .N

Canada's energy sector grabbed attention as oil prices edged lower after production at Norway's Johan Sverdrup oilfield resumed, although escalation in the Russia-Ukraine war limited the overall decline. O/R

The materials sector could take cues from gold prices, whichhit a one-week peak as the dollar's rally took a pause, while copper prices also gained. GOL/ MET/L

The composite index .GSPTSE ended higher on Monday, boosted by mining and energy companies.

Investors are looking out for domesticconsumer price index (CPI) data for October, due later in the day, that could help determine extent of anexpected interest rate cut by the Bank of Canada next month.

Canada's annual inflation has slipped below the BoC's 2% target, allowingthe top bank last month to slash its key policy rates by an unusually large half a percentage point.

Market participants see a 36.4% chance for another 50-bps rate cut in December. 0#BOCWATCH
