STOXX FLIPS INTO THE BLACK

Shares in Europe got off to a weaker start on Monday, but early declines progressively evaporated in the first hour of trading, pushing the region-wide STOXX 600 .STOXX and the CAC 40 .FCHI in Paris both into positive territory.

The reversal might be a reflection of traders seeking bargains across French equities after last month's selloff. Voting results in France point to a hung parliament, ruling out extreme scenarios. But the resulting political fragmentation might still pose a lingering risk for investors.

The CAC 40 was last up 0.5%, slightly outperforming the STOXX 600's 0.4% gain. A gauge of euro zone equity volatility .V2TX fell for a fourth straight day, dipping below 13 points.
