LONDON, Sept 11 (Reuters) -Robusta coffee futures on ICE steadied on Wednesday, consolidating this week's gains as investor focus returned to the issue of supply tightness, while cocoa futures resumed their rally amid volatile trading conditions.

COFFEE

* November robusta coffee LRCc2 was little changed at $4,896 a metric ton following two days of gains. The contract is however, still some way off the Aug. 30 peak of $5,180, which was the highest in at least 16 years.

* Dealers noted prices for Brazilian robusta beans are in some cases trading at a premium to arabica for only the second time in history.

* Robusta shipments from No. 3 exporter Brazil surged about 31% year-on-year in August, data showed.

* Coffee shipments from top robusta exporter Vietnam meanwhile fell 12.1% in the first eight months of the year versus a year ago, data showed.

* In No. 2 robusta exporter Indonesia, dealers said coffee stockists are able and willing to hold onto supply if their expectations are not met, dealers said.

* December arabica coffee KCc2 fell 1.5% to $2.473.45 per lb.

* Dealers said dry, hot conditions in top arabica producer Brazil have lead them to observe, for the first time, flower buds falling off trees before the flowering has even occurred.

* Rains are expected to return to Brazil in the third week of September, but dealers expect damage from prior dry, hot weather to keep arabica in a $2.50-2.55 range this week.

COCOA

* December London cocoa LCCc2 rose 3.3% to 5,408 pounds a ton, having settled down 4.7% on Tuesday. The contract remains well above last week's 6-1/2 month low of 4,975 pounds.

* Cocoa remains underpinned by extremely tight supplies this season, with expectations for a much larger crop in 2024/25 (October-September) keeping gains in check.

* December New York cocoa CCc2 rose 4.9% to $7,626 a ton, having fallen 2.7% on Tuesday.

SUGAR

* October raw sugar SBc1 rose 2.2% to 18.86 cents per lb, having settled down 1.9% on Tuesday.

* An analyst survey by S&P Global Commodity Insights forecasts Centre-South Brazil sugar production in the second half of August at 3.26 million tons, down 6% year-on-year.

* The data should be released in the next few days.

* October white sugar LSUc1 rose 2% to $528.70 a ton.
