NASDAQ, S&P 500 RISE EARLY AS NETFLIX RALLIES
The Nasdaq .IXIC and S&P 500 .SPX are higher in early trading as shares of Netflix NFLX.O are up nearly 10% after it topped subscriber targets in its late Thursday earnings report.
Communication services .SPLRCL and technology .SPLRCT are the leading gainers among S&P 500 sectors.
The Dow .DJI, however, is down slightly. Energy shares .SPNY are following crude oil prices lower.
The three major stock indexes are on track to post a sixth straight week of gains.
Netflix is the latest major U.S. company to report results. The third-quarter earnings season for S&P 500 companies unofficially kicked off last week.
Brian Jacobsen, chief economist at Annex Wealth Management in Brookfield, Wisconsin, writes in a note Friday: "Earnings season is off to a good start, but expectations for growth might be a bit too high."
