Group of Seven (G7) leaders hold a final day of talks at their annual summit on Friday, with China topping the agenda before Pope Francis puts in a historic appearance to discuss artificial intelligence (AI).

Leaders of the Group of Seven major democracies agreed on an outline deal on Thursday to provide $50 billion of loans for Ukraine using interest from Russian sovereign assets frozen after Moscow invaded its neighbour in 2022.

Italy has demanded the removal of a reference to "safe and legal abortion" from the final statement of this week's Group of Seven summit, diplomats said on Thursday, drawing a rebuke from French President Emmanuel Macron. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni swiftly shot back, accusing Macron of looking to score political points ahead of national elections in France later this month.


ECONOMY

ISTAT releases April foreign trade data (0800 GMT).

Bank of Italy releases April data on public finances, state borrowing and debt.


The Italian economy will grow by 0.8% this year and next, the Bank of Italy said on Thursday, leaving unchanged its previous estimate for 2024 and marginally revising down the outlook for 2025.

COMPANIES

The European Central Bank has sent a letter to the lender demanding a detailed plan for the rapid divestment of its assets in Russia, daily Il Messaggero reported on Friday without citing sources.

When asked about possible interest in Monte dei Paschi, Chief Executive Giuseppe Castagna reiterated that the bank presented a stand alone business plan in December, speaking in an interview with La Stampa published on Friday.

The chief executive of TIM Brasil TIMS3.SA, Alberto Griselli, said on Thursday that TIM's deal to sell its physical network could provide an additional boost for its business in Brazil.


STELLANTIS STLAM.MI

The automaker will aggressively move to cut costs as competition from Chinese automakers intensifies rather than use a "defensive" strategy that relies on tariffs on Chinese-made imports announced by European authorities, its CEO said on Thursday.


M&A, ITA Airways

Lufthansa LHAG.DE is likely to secure EU antitrust approval for its bid to buy a stake in state-owned Italian airline ITA, three people with direct knowledge of the matter said on Thursday.
