FROM NOW UNTIL YEAR-END: WHAT COULD GO WELL

Markets have been jittery over the past several weeks, shaken by two significant volatility spikes, but Deutsche Bank reckons there is plenty to be optimistic about and believes investors should take an upbeat view going into year end.

According to Henry Allen, strategist at the German bank, data continues to point away from a recession and if the Fed cuts rates while guiding the economy to a soft landing, that's historically been a very good backdrop for risk assets.

Also, the prospect of lower borrowing costs in the world's largest economy has already helped ease financial conditions, he notes, and rate cuts by other central banks point to a synchronised easing cycle.

On top of that, this month's weakness may give way to more favourable seasonality.

"And even though September is usually a poor month for markets, the seasonality trends are about to become a lot more favourable in Q4. So there are lots of credible reasons to be positive about the months ahead," he concludes.
