Cocoa, coffee prices fall as dollar rallies; sugar up
Adds comments and closing prices
LONDON, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Cocoa and coffee futures on ICE fell on Wednesday, weighed down by a broad-based decline in commodity markets as the dollar rallied sharply following Donald Trump's election as U.S. President, while sugar prices recovered to close up.
COCOA
* March New York cocoa CCc2 settled down $276, or 4%, to $6,670 a metric ton.
* Dealers said an expected partial recovery in Ghana's cocoa production this year should lessen supply concerns, although a below-average crop is still anticipated due to challenges such as illegal gold mining and disease.
* Swiss chocolate maker Barry Callebaut said on Wednesday that global production should also pick up in 2024/25.
* "We see significant improvement in cocoa harvest versus last year, but still not at the 2022/2023 levels," said Peter Feld, CEO of the world's biggest industrial chocolate maker, at a post-earnings presentation.
* March London cocoa LCCc2 fell 2.4% to 5,264 pounds per ton.
COFFEE
* January robusta coffee LRCc2 settled down $65, or 1.5%, at $4,307 a ton.
* Dealers said the focus remained on the harvest in top robusta producer Vietnam which should gather pace this month.
* Vietnam exported 1.15 million metric tons of coffee in the first 10 months of this year, down 11.2% from the same period in 2023, government data released on Wednesday showed.
* December arabica coffee KCc1 fell 0.6% to $2.4875 per lb as rains continue to fall over Brazilian coffee fields, potentially boosting 2025 crop prospects.
SUGAR
* March raw sugar SBc1 settled up 0.13 cent, or 0.6%, at 22.03 cents per lb.
* Prices recovered after earlier falling in tandem with other commodities amid a strong dollar.
* Brazilian sugar exports in 2024 have already surpassed last year's record due to strong loadings since January, official data showed.
* Rains continue to fall over Brazil's sugar areas, but crop development is likely to take longer this time as fields are in poor condition.
* December white sugar LSUc1 was little changed at $555.80 a ton.
