Adds detail on auction information in paragraph 3, macroeconomic context in paragraph 4

BRASILIA/SAO PAULO, Dec 17 (Reuters) -The Brazilian Treasury will hold additional auctions to buy and sell government debt over the next three days to offer support to the market and ensure that it operates well, it said in a statement on Tuesday.

In addition to the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday auctions, the Treasury added that it canceled a usual government debt auction previously scheduled for Thursday.

The details of each of the additional debt auctions will be released on their respective days, according to the statement.

Brazil's interest rate futures have been rising in recent weeks while the real currency on Monday weakened to a record low against the U.S. dollar, amid market worries over government spending.
