Updates with additional detail

BUENOS AIRES, Nov 22 (Reuters) -Argentina's economic activity fell 3.3% in September compared with the same month in the prior year, the country's official statistics agency said on Friday.

The result, Argentina's fourth-consecutive month of year-on-year contraction, was an even larger contraction than the 2.7% drop expected by analysts surveyed by Reuters.

The grains-rich country's economic activity fell 0.3% versus a month earlier, breaking the momentum of growth built up over the previous months .

The country is battling to get out of a deep recession, but tough austerity measures by libertarian President Javier Milei, which have helped lower inflation and stabilize state finances, have also taken a toll on many sectors of the economy.

Fishing had the steepest decline in September, contracting 25.2% year-on year, followed by construction, which fell 16.6%.

Only four sectors posted year-on-year growth, statistics agency INDEC said. Mining stood out with 7.6% growth, and the agriculture, livestock, hunting and forestry sector was up 3.1%.
